Winter Lights Across Canada

Head out to Somba K'e Civic Plaza and the Legislative Assembly to see our community light up for the holidays!

Even though Yellowknife gets limited sunlight in the winter, it’s still filled with shining lights to bring cheer to out community! The Festival of Lights begins with the lighting of the tree at Somba K’e Park in December. After the festivities have begun and you’re done marveling at the twinkling lights, head over to the Legislative Assembly to listen to live music, pick up some snacks, and maybe get a visit from a special someone visiting from the North Pole.

In town for the holidays? Visit Somba K’e park outside City Hall to see the New Year’s Eve Fireworks and ring in 2026! Make sure you layer up so you can be toasty warm for the whole spectacle.
