Dog Sledding, Ice Fishing, and Skijoring

Yellowknife is truly a city like no other, and one thing that makes it unique is all the fun to be had in the winter.

There are lots of options of how to fill your time during the Yellowknife winter. Looking to stay in one place for a few hours? Ice fishing is for you! Unpack and nestle into your heated fishing tent for a few hours of angling to catch a northern pike, whitefish or a lake trout and share some stories with your fellow fisherpeople or spend the time reflecting on your journey. Remember, you must obtain a Northwest Territories Fishing Licence to participate.

Looking for some thrill? Try a dog sledding or skijoring tour with the sensational operators in our community! Climb into a toboggan pulled by a skilled and trained dog team and cover lots of ground while getting to relax. Want a different paw-some activity that requires some more balance? Skijoring offers you the opportunity to pop on your skis, connect your harness to the dogs, and take off!

Whether it’s trying a traditional form of transportation like dog sledding or snowshoeing, you’re sure to enjoy everything the extraordinary Northern landscape has to offer and have an un-brr-lievable time.
