Crafting and Art

Yellowknife is a culturally rich city with dozens of nationally recognized artists, including musicians, carvers and painters and skilled craftspeople.

Our residents come from nearly 100 different countries and their customs and cuisine are part of the city’s fabric.

Whether you’re looking for a gift to bring back for your friends or a personal keepsake to remember your extraordinary trip to Yellowknife, our skilled local artisans have you covered with pieces from across the territory!

Want to make your own souvenir? Make your own distinctive cup at Old Town Glassworks, or visit the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts. There are many great shops and galleries that sell the detailed pieces artisans spend countless hours creating. Make sure if you’re here in the summer you check out the Farmer’s Market at Somba K’e Park for your one-stop-shop for everything Yellowknife, and make sure you stop in at the Fireweed Studio! Or if you’re visiting family during the holiday season, make your way to one of the many holiday markets.

Our community is proud of our Indigenous heritage and culture and encourages you to purchase goods made by the talented artisans in our community and attend a workshop hosted by a local craftsperson (just make sure it’s open to the general public before registering)!
