Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Winter in Yellowknife means there’s lots of fun to be had in Canada’s Capital of Cool!

Looking to get active outside? Grab some cross country skis or snowshoes and get moving. Don’t forget to take some photos of the gorgeous landscape and your frosted eyelashes to prove you made the journey.

Check out the Yellowknife Ski Club for events happening, to check out the trails and buy a day pass, or sign up for lessons.

Need to rent skis or snowshoes? Head over to Overlander Sports and their staff can assist you.

Looking for places to ski or snowshoe? Some great flat beginner trails are located on Frame Lake and Back Bay, usually from late December to March! The trails at Fred Henne are usually available from November to April. Remember all these dates are weather dependent, always check the Ice Thickness table and double check when it was last updated! Quick tip from the locals:Being on the lake means the wind can nip at you, so make sure you’re dressed properly for the weather.
