Events

Yellowknife has plenty to see and enjoy, no matter the season!

In Yellowknife, the fun - and sun in the summer -  never sets. Our calendar is packed with distinctly northern events from dog sled races and Dene hand game tournaments, to one of the most unique music festivals anywhere in Canada.

Imagine dancing in the sand under the midnight sun at Folk on the Rocks. Or watching a snow carving competition at a giant Snow Castle. Or taking in the beauty of nature from the comfort of your kayak or canoe. These are just some events that make your visit to Yellowknife extraordinary.

Then there are the attractions! A lively Farmer’s Market every Tuesday during the summer. A tour of the NWT Legislative Assembly and a chance to see the diamond encrusted mace. Pop into the Prince of Wales Heritage Centre or the Yellowknife Historical Society to learn more about Northern history.

Visit the Diamond Centre where you can watch a documentary on the history of diamond mining in the North or Old Town Glassworks, where you can make your own souvenir glass. And of course there are static attractions that interpret Yellowknife’s colourful past: the Bristol monument, the Bush Pilot’s Monument, stunning murals throughout our city, historic buildings with signs explaining their origins… the list goes on.
